Good volume and extract mouth filling with a bight acidity giving a lift to the unctuous stone fruit flavours, good depth and substance with a long lingering finish.

The palate falls in with these themes and presents precision and poise; the razor-sharp freshness of lemon zest is both brightening and deliciously bracing. This is a svelte but concentrated wine of great purity that has not really come into its own yet. It is perfumed now but one cannot help but suspect much more development of aroma in the future. En bouche ce vin exprime des notes de coing et de citron cristallisé associées à de fines notes de mandarine, de miel, de pomme cuite ainsi qu’à une discrète note de pêche au sirop et à une très discrète pointe de quénette. La bouche est fruitée, suave, équilibrée et offre du gras, un bon volume, une bonne définition ainsi qu’un petite côté aérien. En bouche ce vin exprime des notes de fruits exotiques (passion, quénette), d’ananas au sirop et d’agrumes confits (citron, mandarine) associées à de discrètes pointes de miel, de pêche blanche ainsi qu’à une très discrète note de pain d’épices. En bouche ce vin exprime des notes de citron, de mandarine et de fruits exotiques associées à de discrètes notes de citron vert, de pêche vigne ainsi qu’à de discrètes notes d’amande, de miel et d’épices. Gold-tinged yellow. Aromatic notes of lemon verbena, honey and sweet spices complicate ripe apricot and peach on the nose; very Hengst! A hint of earth complements tropical fruit flavors on the smooth, round palate, with lemony acidity giving this big wine lift, purity and precision. The long finish features repeating honey and tropical fruit nuances. Bright straw. Enticing aromas of stone fruits, quince and minerals. Juicy and vibrant in the mouth, with vivid citrus and mineral flavors showing a peppery edge and lovely floral lift on the long finish. Quite cool and crisp; I especially like this wine’s minerally Schlossberg personality. Pale straw. Quince and chamomile aromas are lifted by a note of lime. Fresh and juicy in the mouth but with a powerful spine giving this a richer-than-usual mouthfeel for the grape variety. Finishes long, bright and crisp. Only indigenous yeasts were used. PHILIPPE EHRHART : un test pour un futur 1er Cru
C’est son 3ème Grand prix du Jury. Les deux premiers, le Domaine Saint-Rémy de Wettolsheim les a décrochés il y a quelques années pour un Gewurztraminer Sélection de Grains Nobles et un Pinot Gris Vendanges Tardives. Avant de faire une pause « On ne faisait plus de concours depuis le passage de l’exploitation en Bio en 2007. Mais une compétition internationale, c’est valorisant. », confie Philippe EHRHART, à la tête de l’exploitation familiale de 24 ha conduite en biodynamie.
La présentation d’un Gewurztraminer Rosenberg 2013 prenait un peu valeur de test, alors que ce lieu-dit, au sol argilo-calcaire, est candidat à une appellation 1er Cru. « On a un gewurztraminer qui est sur de beaux fruits avec des arômes d’abricots et de poire. Un vin très bien équilibré entre sucre, acidité et alcool, qui offre une persistance en bouche. Il est prometteur », dit-il de son champion. Ce Gewurztraminer Rosenberg récolté avec un rendement de 49 hl/ha, le vigneron le voit bien servi en apéritif, ou sur des plats épicés ou des fromages forts. Il le commercialise autour de 12,50 €. Son sacre à Strasbourg vient valider les procédés de vinification du viticulteur, qui laisse les vins sur lie pendant 6 à 8 mois sans filtration, « ce qui leur donne plus de fruit, plus de gras ». « Je fais », dit-il « les vins que j’ai envie de boire. Et avec l’âge, on aime des produits un peu plus secs. J’essaie d’évoluer sur les riesling vers des vins plus vifs ».
Cette haute distinction constitue un bon argument de communication et de vente auprès des importateurs pour le domaine qui exporte 40% de sa production dans 17 pays. « Cela montre aux clients que la qualité est là et qu’ils peuvent avoir confiance. Et cela permet au vigneron de voir où il en est ».
